Text Box: PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The Tumor Registry Certification program is designed to train the students in processing the technical knowledge and skills necessary to maintain components of the disease-related data collections systems consistent with medical, administrative, ethical , legal, and accreditation requirements of the health care delivery  system.  The cancer registrar processes, maintains, complies and reports health information for research, quality management and improvement, facility planning, and marketing; abstracts and codes clinical data using appropriate classification systems; obtains long-term follow-up data; and  analyzes health records according to standards.  The registrar may also be responsible for functional supervision of the various components of the disease-related data collection system and may participate in medical staff and institutional activities.


EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES: 
The Cancer Registrar plays an important role in how cancer trends are reported and how cancer care will respond to those trends.  The cancer registry is located within the hospital and ambulatory healthcare facilities and data organizations.  The Cancer Registrar complies data on all oncology (cancer) cases seen within jurisdiction (institution, state, region, and nation) in a uniform, consistent and easily retrievable format.

Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC)

Text Box: The Tumor Registry Specialist program is accredited by the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA).  Students are eligible to sit for the Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) exam under NCRA’s eligibility route 2.

ENTRANCE DATES:
Fall and spring quarter for program courses.   Quarterly for general education courses.  All first and second quarter courses must be completed prior to beginning third quarter, CRC courses.
ADMISSIONS CRITERIA:
Submit a completed application and the one-time application fee
Be at least 17 years of age
Request official copies of your high school transcript or GED scores to be sent to the Admissions office
Request official copies of your postsecondary transcripts to be sent to the Admission Office
Achievement of minimum regular admissions scores on test of Reading, English, and Mathematics
Payment of required professional liability insurance fee
